Urgent Help Needed to Help Protect Women who Breastfeed in Public

Last week the Government’s Equality Bill was published in full and we are delighted to announce that it includes protection against discrimination for women who breastfeed in public.

We need your urgent help to ensure that this part of the Bill gets as much support as possible. The Bill will be debated in Parliament on Monday 11th May and we need you to ask your MP to support the clause related to breastfeeding.

You can do this by clicking here and sending your MP the prewritten email calling for their support. You can also do this on the UNICEF UK website: http://www.unicef.org.uk/campaigns/take_action/email_fax_your_mp/index.asp?action=84

Hey, Facebook, breastfeeding is not obscene! - Recently, Facebook has started 'pulling a myspace' by not allowing people to post profile pictures of babies nursing. The pictures have been reported as 'obscene' and have been removed- their posters warned not to repost or fear being kicked off of Facebook.  We're wondering: what about a baby breastfeeding is obscene?

Midwifery

One woman one midwife - We want every woman in the UK from whatever background and socio-economic status to have the opportunity to choose their lead professional (midwife) and be provided with a maternity service built upon Choice, Information and Partnership

Save Independent Midwifery - The government is proposing to make it compulsory for all health professionals, including independent midwives, to have professional indemnity insurance (against negligence claims).  At present there is no such insurance available for independent midwives in the UK, and the government has refused to provide any.

First Birth Survey - BirthChoices.co.uk has recently been searching for statistics on the 'modes of delivery' (or how you baby is born) for first time mothers, but it appears that no-one is collating these crucial facts & figures - at least not officially!

The Motherhood Project - TBA have requested exchange of details.
